Lego is one of our all time favourite gifts for kids, but it seems that it’s not only children who appreciate it. From the front-line in Libya to the Royal Wedding, the Occupy Movement to the capture of Osama Bin Laden, 2011 has been a landmark year for change, revolution and celebration. To mark the highs and lows of the year, the innovative people of Flickr, armed with Lego and a bucketful of imagination, have brought us this colourful documentation of the past year..

April 2011: Following their wedding at Westminister Abbey, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have their "first kiss" on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

May 2011: Barack Obama watches the capture and subsequent killing of Osama Bin Laden unfold from Washington D.C.

June 2011: Barack Obama meets with German Chancellor, Angela Markel, as rumours of a double-dip recession are rife.

July 2011: Rupert Murdoch narrowly avoids getting a cream pie in his face at a hearing of a government select committee over the phone-hacking scandal.

August 2011: Rioters in London, Manchester and Bimingham clash with police officers.

September 2011: The Occupy Movement was initiated as protesters camped out at Zuccotti Park, NY. Similar demonstrations were to be mimicked across the globe.

October 2011: Fighting in Libya continues as anti-Gaddafi forces launch an attack on the dictator's hometown of Sirte.

November 2011: A police officer captured spraying student protesters at University College Davis, CA hits the web and sparks an international series of online memes.

November 2011: Lego erect a Christmas tree in London and hits the newstand for real.
